What is the Silver Violet Flame?
The Silver Violet Flame is a high frequency spiritual energy, which has been

Using the Silver Violet Flame Energies

to bring nice high vibration Energies into your space.

How to Give the Attunement
You may wish to bathe or ground yourself of excess energies before
commencing the attunement procedure. Make sure you will not be interrupted,
and if you are a Reiki practitioner/master or spiritual healer, feel free to use
whatever preparation methods you feel most comfortable with.
Once you are ready, focus on the person to be attuned by thinking or looking
at their name. Request the assistance of your guides, the angels of the Silver
Violet Flame, the assistance of the attunee’s guides and St. Germain. They
are the ones that actually make this attunement - you are only the antenna
sending the signal to a particular person. Then visualise a violet flame around
you, inside you, and all around.
Say the following either aloud or silently:
“I call upon the keepers of the Silver Violet Flame. I ask that St. Germain
assist me here now in attuning (person’s name, address) to the Silver
Violet Flame.”
See the flame surround the person, entering their heart and chakras. Allow it
to flow through them for a few moments. Then say:
“(Person’s name), you have been attuned to the Silver Violet Flame, the
fire of unconditional love and spiritual service. Go in peace and attune
others to their spiritual flame.”
You may wish to elaborate, but it is unnecessary. The attunement is complete.

~On April 15^th a magnanimous event shall unfold before earthlings. An event of such proportions that the world has not seen eons past. The event that shall be known in recorded history as that which has come and that which has gone and that which has returned and that which has risen from the ashes of the past into the newly formed UNITY of  the ones to come. For the mathematical equation of Pi, and E=MC2 shall play a very important role in the days to come. For that which does not exists to the human mind, shall indeed be revealed. ~

On April 15^th a magnanimous event shall unfold before earthlings. An event of such proportions that the world has not seen eons past. The event that shall be known in recorded history as that which has come and that which has gone and that which has returned and that which has risen from the ashes of the past into the newly formed UNITY of the ones to come.

For the event of the magnanimous proportions, shall strip mankind of all their EGO, shall strip mankind of all their knowledge of eons past.  For all shall be stripped away, and only the raw, true, nature remain. The stripping away of the veil of the illusionary world that they have found themselves to be a part of. And the truth of their kind be revealed to them yet again.

Therein within the hearts of so many lays the code to the eternal understanding of time, the eternal understanding of all that is, all that was and all that ever will be. The codexes imprinted therein shall activate on the date in question and continue to rapidly unfold throughout your known world, and the worlds around you. Baring the fruitful commencement of the events that are to follow, the earthlings shall face the history that they have not been exposed to prior.

The earthlings shall bear fruit of all that has been laid before them, by those who have come and gone. And as such, the events that are to unfold will touch many a heart, will unraveled many a truth, from within the layers of the sub atomic particles within the psyche of their being and the civilization as a whole.

Many upon many shall awaken and open their eyes as if for the first time, seeing the world anew, many upon many shall bear witness to the magnanimous events occurring in the skies and within their own vessels, for the vessel of time and space, the vessels of the human understanding of time shall be transformed once and for all. That which was hidden shall become known and open the doors to the eternal understanding of that which they are!

For the events unfurling themselves before you have been misunderstood by humanity. For the stories that have been foretold have been put through the EGO selves of the beholder, for the truth that is to be unfolded and revealed to humanity is not the Armageddon of the world. For the word Armageddon has indeed been misunderstood by humanity. For the idea of Armageddon truly is the BEGINNING of times, and the shedding of the old, and welcoming of the new!

For indeed the revelations of the history of mankind shall cause the Armageddon of the know world, the know world within the hearts of so many, for upon the awakening of themselves to their true selves and facing thereof, much will become crystal clear, much will become, known, and there shall no longer be a shadow to hide behind, for each and every single one shall face their own self, their own EGO, their own fears and apprehensions, their own reality.

For each one shall see the bright light of the source, and their own divine selves. For each one shall take heed of their actions, for each one shall be faced with that which they have indeed experienced prior, and asked to release and cleanse from their palate.

All of this shall occur in a split moment of time, for the energies that shall pore onto earth at the time of the second moon shall be grand, for the first moon that ye shall see in the nightly skies, the first moon that ye shell lay eyes upon shall swirl the energies,  the beautiful energies of creation, for the energies of actions shall be delivered into the earth’s fields of glory.

Much shall unfold before you. Much of the human understanding shall be changed. For only the love, the unconditional love of the universal proportions shall rein on this planet. Love and understanding, love and eternal bliss, for the time has come to put down the weapons of self destruction and open the hearts to the new energies, the new consciousness to descend into your own vessels and for your souls to ascend to the creator, to ascend into a new understanding. The understanding of oneness, the understanding of manifestations, the understating of your own supremacy and the powers therein. To understand  that indeed you are a part of the great composition that is the universe. To understand that you are indeed NOT alone. For you are always surrounded, for you are always supported by the source and all that is.

And so, as the hearts of so many shall open, the hearts of so many shall embrace the new world, and a such, and thus, it is of utmost importance for ALL of YOU – The Ground Crew, to remain in balance, remain in balance dear children of light, for the road ahead is turbulent indeed. Remain in balance for the light that you bring forth into this world is emanating tri fold. For you are as a prism that is transporting the light into the known world. For you are that which has brought into this universe the new knowledge and understanding of self. The new knowledge and understanding of that which has come and that which shall be. For the mathematical equation of Pi, and E=MC2 shall play a very important role in the days to come. The wonder of life, shall unfold before all children of their creator selves. The wonder of the beautiful creation you call Mother GAIA. For indeed it is so. And a such, many questions shall arise, and many shall cry to the heavens for explanation, for their ideals and their understanding of self, shall vanish, and all shall be erased, for they will stand in awe and wonder and trepidation, stripped completely naked to the core of their hearts. And only the beautiful melody of truth shall ring in their ears.

And when such an event occurs, know that much chaos shall unfold, and as such, you shall be the ones to embrace the lost souls, you shall be ones to show them the way, you shall be the ones to honor and protect them, to respect that which they are going through and assist them in further rediscovery of themselves and their link to the universe en large.

For that which they shall see, for that which they shall hear, for that which they shall sense, will frighten them to the core. For most it shall be occur in private, in the privacy of their chambers, for some it shall occur in the open fields of their imaginations. For others it shall occur in the vast cosmic alliances and yet for the rest it shall be  revealed and brought through the television screens, through the computer screens, through all the media of your known world. And so. And thus, the preparation is near, the preparations of the galactic history that will open the gate and unfold a new plan for the new millennium, a new plan for humanity a new plan for all that is.

Stay in the light dearly beloveds, stay in the light knowing that we are standing by you. Know that you are loved beyond measure by the universe, by the source and all that is. Understand that you are the ones in command, that you are the ones that have taken it upon yourselves to walk foot in foot and hand in hand with humanity. Know that you are, the guardians of earthlings, for you are their guides, you are their way showers, you are their support team. Understand that although the road will be lengthy it will be a fruitful one indeed!

PERSONAL NOTE: From what I am feeling and seeing, the events are going to begin on the 15^thand continue all through the blood moons, all the way through next year and beyond. What we are reaching is a turning point, from which we are finally going to see rapid changes. Not that we haven’t, as we truly have! This year alone has  brought tremendous amount of changes! But now things are going to accelerate! Much of the darkness will be contained and balanced out. Much of what has been destroyed reconstructed, and built all over again. A lot of our lost history will finally begin to be “leaked” into the news. Scientists will confirm a lot more of what we are all talking about and already know. NASA will “leak” various images proving the existence of our Galactic Family. Spiritually people will awaken en mass, and begin to re-evaluate the way that they treat each other. We are ALL going to be affected. And although at times it might seem like a bumpy road, we should always remember that that is exactly what it is, turbulence in a plane, just something we need to get through, and that sometimes the plane must fly lower to the ground in order to continue its flight. All in all everything is looking incredibly bright and beautiful! :) We have a A LOT OF wonder to look forward to!!!! :) We’re entering, well have already entered into very exciting times. :)

Have you heard about the Violet Flame? This is a frequency of energy, vibration, and consciousness that is flowing into the mental and emotional strata of Earth through the all-encompassing Divine Matrix of our Father-Mother God. This Gift of Sacred Fire is flowing in, through, and around every particle of Life on Earth and it has the amazing ability to transmute into Light the negativity that is being pushed to the surface in our individual lives and in the lives of people who are suffering all over the world.

The catch is, that in order for this powerful Gift of Light to accomplish this mission the Sons and Daughters of God abiding on Earth must give it permission to do so. We have the gift of free will, and through the misuse of our thoughts, words, actions, feelings, and beliefs we have either deliberately or inadvertently created the maladies existing on Earth. This effluvia was the shroud of darkness that disconnected us from our I AM Presence and prevented us from communicating with the Beings of Light in the Realms of Illumined Truth. For over seven decades Lightworkers around the world have been invoking the Violet Flame, slowly and steadily clearing the way for the awakening that is now taking place within the hearts and minds of people everywhere.

Due to the incredible changes that have successfully taken place within Humanity’s Earthly bodies over the past several years, we are now capable of assimilating higher frequencies of the Violet Flame than ever before. For example, if we are interested in transmuting the obsolete patterns of poverty consciousness that we developed over many lifetimes through our belief in lack and limitation, we simply ask the Violet Flame to accomplish that goal. This can be done through a simple invocation. For example:

“I AM my Beloved I AM Presence, invoking the full power of the 5th-Dimensional Solar Violet Flame to transmute cause, core, effect, record, and memory every thought, feeling, word, action, or belief I have ever expressed in any time frame or dimension, both known and unknown, that reflects poverty consciousness or lack and limitation of any kind.”

With that invocation, the 5th-Dimensional Solar Violet Flame immediately goes into action. It blazes forth from our Heart Flame, stamped with our own electronic Light pattern. It travels through the atmosphere of Earth and expands out into the Universe. On its journey, it seeks out and magnetizes to itself every electron of energy vibrating with a frequency of poverty, lack, or limitation that is stamped with the same electronic Light pattern.

No matter how dense the frequency of poverty is that cloaks the energy we misqualified during our many lifetimes, there is still a core of purity in every electron that contains its original Divine Potential. This means that within every electron manifesting as poverty there is still, pulsating within its core, the Divine Potential of God’s Infinite Abundance. Within every electron manifesting as hatred there is still the Divine Potential of God’s Infinite Love. Within every electron of war there is still the Divine Potential of Eternal Peace. Within every electron of disease there is still the Divine Potential of Vibrant Health.

Once the Violet Flame engulfs the misqualified energy that is stamped with our electronic Light pattern, it penetrates into the core of purity in each electron and activates the Divine Potential that is encoded there. As the Divine Potential of God’s Infinite Abundance is activated within every electron of our poverty consciousness, the atomic and subatomic particles and waves within the electrons begin to spin more rapidly on their axis. The centrifugal force of this acceleration casts the dark frequencies of poverty, lack, and limitation into the Violet Flame. The Violet Fire instantly consumes the frequencies of poverty and transmutes them back into the frequency of God’s Infinite Abundance.

When the transmuting process feels complete, we must then ask our I AM Presence to fill the void where the frequencies of poverty existed with the patterns of perfection from our new Planetary Cause of Divine Love and our newly birthed Renaissance of Divine Love.

The Violet Flame can transmute anything we want to heal or transform in our individual lives or on the planet. It can transmute back into Light anything that is not reflecting the love, harmony, and balance of Heaven on Earth. All we have to do is invoke the Violet Flame into action through our I AM Presence.

When invoking the Violet Flame, we can work on specific issues in our lives, tackle global problems, or create an invocation that covers the gamut of problems manifesting on Earth. In that case, we can use the invocation as a mantra and be an instrument of the 5th-Dimensional Solar Violet Flame any time and any place. For example, a simple invocation might be:

“I AM my Beloved I AM Presence, invoking the full power of the 5th-Dimensional Solar Violet Flame to transmute cause, core, effect, record, and memory every thought, feeling, word, action, or belief Humanity and I have ever expressed in any time frame or dimension, both known and unknown, that reflects anything less than the infinite perfection of God’s Divine Love.”

By memorizing a simple affirmation like this, we can say it frequently throughout the day. Then we will be a constant force of the Violet Flame wherever we are and whatever we are doing.

Occasionally, people invoke the Violet Flame without seeing the results in the outer world as quickly as they would like to see them. This gives them the erroneous impression that the Violet Flame is not working. That is never the case! The Violet Flame is a gift of Divine Light that works scientifically to the letter each and every time it is invoked by the I AM Presence. The moment you reach a critical mass of the Violet Flame in your Life there will be an unstoppable shift and whatever you are invoking will manifest in your life. The Key is to “Keep on keeping on!” The Violet Flame is infinitely more powerful than the fragmented, fear-based miscreations of your past. Remember, you have the ability to transmute hundreds of lifetimes worth of negativity “in the twinkling of an eye.” Know that the Light of God is ALWAYS Victorious, and YOU are that Light.

Physical lateralities of the symptoms are quite revealing of what happens inside us, so it is possible that many readers interested in self-healing and who have read other authors, may be surprised when I say that the right side of the body represents for me the symbol of the "mother" and the left side is the symbol of the "father".

As you will understand, this is not a statement said too lightly, but it is based on a thorough study of the subject.

When I became interested in holistic healing, I also learned about the contrary. That is, the right side of the body, that is governed by the left hemisphere, was related to action, reason, Yang energy, and consequently, with the male symbol, with the father or with their representatives (authority, etc.) and the left side, governed by the right hemisphere, was associated with intuition, Yin energy, with the feminine side and the mother or with their representatives (institutions, society, etc.).

So we can conclude that the conditions on the right side speaks of a conflict with a male element, with the son, with the father, or with those they are represented with, the chief, the authority, etc. Similarly, the left side evokes the difficulties of relationship with a female element, the daughter, the mother, home, society, etc.

People have two distinct nervous systems operating in our body: the central nervous system or spinal-brain that is governed by the brain and our conscious and the autonomous or autonomic nervous system, that is governed by our Non-Conscious. Besides, the autonomic nervous system is divided into two parts: the sympathetic system and the parasympathetic.

The central nervous system is the one that regulates life consciously and voluntarily. The information comes from the five senses and has a great impact on all processes that man can make on a voluntary basis, such as walking, picking up a glass, hugging, etc. because it acts on the "white" muscle fibbers located mainly in the arms and legs.

However, the autonomic nervous system governs everything that is involuntary, unconscious in our body, such as digestion, immune system, heart function, etc., and "red" fibbers (heart, pancreas, liver, etc.) are almost totally dependent from it.

However, unlike the central nervous system, as we have seen, crosses at the level of the throat, so that each cerebral hemisphere governs the opposite side of the body to which it is located, the autonomic nervous system, does not cross anywhere, but extends from a central axis. From head to toes, the right remains to the right and the left, to the left.

If we know that it is not the brain, through its central nervous system, the one acting on diseases and accidents, as they are not considered voluntary processes of human beings (nobody gets sick intentionally), but rather unconscious and, therefore, from the autonomic nervous system governed by our Non-Conscious, I am convinced that the lateralization we must keep in mind, every time we are in the presence of a lateralized symptom is, right as a symbol of the "mother", female, and left as a symbol of "father", male. This must be true for all right-handed people and vice versa, for all persons born biologically left-handers.

There is also a more subtle explanation: according to psychology, in every human being we can find the two polarities, one visible and another hidden, male-female, man-woman, but we both physically and psychologically develop preferably one of them, leaving the other in the shadow. According to C. G. Jung, the shadow is the sum of all facets of reality that the individual does not recognize or does not want to recognize, and therefore discard. Not recognizing the shadow, the hidden part in us, makes us suffer, since when one rejects a certain principle, every time he finds it on the outside world, it will trigger in him/her a reaction of anxiety and repudiation and will take him/her to project it to his/her spouse or partner. The tendency to highlight the qualities or defects of another person, that actually only reflect, as if it were a mirror, the beauty or imperfections of our own soul, emanates from this projection.

With this theory we can understand that our difficulty comes not from the visible, that part of us which we identify with, but the invisible, the other part we do not want to see.

So when a person has some negative symptoms in his/her right knee, an action and reason symbol, since it is governed by the left, male hemisphere, could show some difficulty with his/her invisible and secret part, that is, with its female hidden dimension, which is confronted by a woman of his/her environment, which will lead him/her to become aware of the problem-of feminine nuance that has.

After my training as a psycho-coder, I have to recognize that in certain diseases, such as those affecting the breasts, shoulders, arms, bronchi, thyroid, feet, legs, bones, etc., it is difficult in many cases to decipher with the exactness of laterality, since although we have a female brain that manages female resentments and a male brain that governs male resentments, we must admit that it can be biologically female but nevertheless have a lot of masculine energy and vice versa.

On the other hand, there is also the ambidextrous person, who may be biological right-handed or biological left-handed, depending on whether it is a man or a woman.

And we may even have a contradicted laterality. For example, some parents who have left-handed children of birth and, for some reason, social, family, etc., are forced to write or to eat with the right hand, these children become functional right but remain left-handed biological.

Dr. Salomon Sellam, in his book Los Huesos, published by Ediciones Bérangel, offers us two aspects, two alternatives that could help us to decipher laterality in order to better define the origin of our conflict. On the one hand it speaks of "the side of the neuro-motor impact". When the danger, the problem or the conflictive situation comes from the right and the neuro-motor impact is inscribed on the same side, it would be a right handedness. He cites as an example a firefighter with problems on his right shoulder, as he was not able to open the door of a burning house pushing with that part of his body and, as a consequence, a person who was inside died, for which he felt invaded by a great guilt, which settled on his right shoulder devalued. If instead of having used his right shoulder, to try to open the door, had resorted to his left shoulder, of course, the pathology would have settled on this shoulder.

And secondly, he suggests an own version, which he tells us, has helped enormously to decipher laterality and, consequently, the origin of emotional conflict.

A pathology located to the right: it would be related to the affective part, with the interior, the house, the home, with the feeling of conceiving a project, a desire, most of the times contradicted. "I would like to do that, I would like to achieve such a thing ... but I feel unable or unable to carry it out because I feel unappreciated, I am a nullity in the eyes of others."

A pathology located on the left: it is closely related to the action, the danger, the outside, the work, the realization of a project often contradicted, followed by a feeling of devaluation. "I have done this or that and I repent, I have been a nullity, I have failed to discern, etc.

Here are several tests to determine biological laterality:

Applause. The people who applaud with the flat left and right strike, are biological right-handed; those who have the right flat and strike with the left, are left-handed biological. Those who applaud in the middle are considered to have a double brain, that is, they work with both brains.

Breastfeed the baby. If they carry the baby with the left arm they have the right to do something else, they will leave the stronger side free, and if they are left handed, it will be just the opposite. With what hand do you give him the bottle?

Thread the thread into a needle. The right hand will take the needle with the left hand, the left hand with the right.

The hammer and the nail. Right-handers will take the nail with the left hand, the left-handers with the right.

Climbing stairs. What is the foot that goes up the first rung?

Conflicts associated with laterality:

Dyslexia may be related. In fact, there may be some contradictory laterality. It is necessary to know the biological laterality. Although there are also transgenerational memories.

Another would be confusing the right with the left. It is related to memories of being an unwanted child or not of the sex that the parents would have preferred (being a child and parents wanting a girl or vice versa).

I wandered into an Enchanted Garden, 100 miles above the Earth it seemed, for I felt I was in Another World of Incomparable Beauty, Colour and Sound;  Rays of Colour shone profusely before my wondering eyes, and with the Exotic Colour, Musical Sounds Floated In And Around, Clear and Beautiful, as if Angels Were Playing, which as I looked more closely, I saw that Indeed They Were, and Fairies Laughed and Danced in and amongst those Rays of Love, Truly Everything Seemed Etheric, Translucent, Shimmering with Wonderful Light, that I thought to myself, ‘if I lived here, I would never want to leave such a beautiful place’.

Then on one of those Angelic Notes, I seemed to hear my name, and then as I looked in another direction, lo and behold, there was the Most Amazing House I had ever seen, in the Shape and Formation of a Star, Beautiful and Bright, Filled With Brilliant White Light, and it seemed to be made of Moving Water, which like the Angels Played Sweet Blessed Music;  those Pure Notes Of Paradise Drifted Across To My Senses, And I Felt A Unique Peace, Not The Freedom From Pain, For I Had Not, But Peace Of The Spirit, My Soul;  Such Utter Serenity I Knew That This Place Was More Blessed Than Even I Was Aware Of, For Such Harmony Filled The Air, And I Felt Tears Of Joy Begin To Fall, Was I – I Wonder Home, Or Was This Just A Dream Of What I Know Does Exist;  Oh Well, I Thought, One Day I Will Know.

Then Out of this Star, which I felt had a Mystical Significance, and which I noticed was Six Pointed, Man, Woman Made Perfect, there Appeared a Brilliant Figure, Bathed In A Silver Glow, And His Robe Was Predominantly Of Silver With Coloured Rays Here And There, And His Hair Too Was White, His Eyes So Gentle And Wise, His Voice Deep and Kind…. ‘Hello, Pat. He Said, At Last You’ve Remembered What You Once Knew – Welcome Home Once More’.

As I Looked At Him, I Was Reminded Of Christ Himself, For That Light Of Greatness Was Everywhere.  He Said, ‘Come, Let Us Go Inside, For Truly There Is Much To See’, And Then He And I Walked Deeper Into The Centre Of The Star, And How At Home I Felt There.  Rippling Moving Waters Played Even Inside, Silvery And Musical, Soft And Gentle, Pure And Perfect, And These Musical Waterfalls Shone Too With Glistening Dew-Drops It Seemed Of Contrast And Colour, Like Pearls Amongst The Moving Scene, So That I Wanted To Touch Them.

And My Host Laughed And Said, ‘Yes, Everyone Loves Those Pearls, And All Want To Touch, Try My Dear Child’, The Joy Is Mine’.

I Touched A Pearl, And As I Did So, The Waterfall Seemed To Become Still And Opened Out Just Like A Lotus, The Water Forming The Petals Of That Beautiful Flower In But A Fraction Of A Second;  I Laughed With Joy, And My Host Said ‘Touch Another Pearl’, And I Did, When I Seemed To Be Transported Back 2,000 Years Before, When Jesus Himself Was Born, And I Saw And Was There And Lived And Loved Every Second Of That Life, Albeit So Short A Time, And I Saw How The Crowds Felt;  The Disciples I Looked Upon;  Mary And Joseph, And The Angels, All Went By Without Hurry Before My Wondering Eyes, And Then We Got To Those Last Few Days And My Tears Fell Even More, And I Wondered How People Could Do What They Did, And I Was Glad I Was Not Them When They Died.

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.

When you are most vulnerable to fraud

Whenever you answer the phone or use your card, fraudsters could be trying to con you out of money. So when are you most at risk and what can you do about it?

The number of people being scammed out of money at cash points has tripled in the first four months of this year, according to figures from Financial Fraud Action (FFA).

The rise has been attributed to ‘shoulder-surfing’ and ‘skimming’ – for example a fraudster reading your PIN over your shoulder after fitting devices to the ATM to either trap your card or read its details.

In January 1,173 cases were reported to be the number has steadily increased to 2,276 at the end of April.

However it’s not just cash points being targeted. The crime has also been reported at Transport For London ticket machines. And in a similar vein, more people are falling prey to theft by distraction at supermarkets, FFA found.

The increase in so-called ‘crude fraud’ comes after security for online transactions and banking has become been beefed up.

Britons are being urged to protect their details when using a card – either to pay or take cash out of an ATM. If your card is swallowed by a machine for any reason, report it to your card company immediately – ideally using your mobile phone while you are still in front of the machine.

If a cashpoint looks as though it’s been tampered with, don’t use it.

But this is far from the only time you're vulnerable to fraudsters. So we've taken a look at the key times and places fraudsters target people, as well as what you can do to protect yourself.

When the phone rings

‘Courier fraud’ takes place when a victim gets a fake call under the guise of a bank or financial provider to say that the victim’s account has been compromised and they would like to collect the card.

The target is then tricked into handing over their PIN and card.

However, a bank will never ring to tell you that they are coming around to pick up your card, so never hand it over to anyone who comes to ‘collect it’. Financial services providers never ask for PINs – even through typing it into the phone

– so don’t give it out.

Mobile phone fraud has become more of a problem in recent years. Among the tricks, is the ‘missed call’ scam - when people call back a number that they don’t recognise and are directed to a premium rate number. Consumers are therefore urged not phone or text unsolicited numbers.

Also beware any unsolicited calls. Anything from someone trying to sell you shares through to telling you your child has played truant and there is a fine to pay. If it's a real call you will never be penalised for not paying immediately and in most cases fine notices are issued through the post.

When you check your email

Despite the increase in online security, there are still some fraudsters who have found ways to get around it, notably through phishing and cloning.

This is when fraudsters trick consumers into disclosing information by copying reputable websites or sending emails in the name of a trusted brand.

More recently fraudsters have fooled people into paying for passport advice or information through copycat emails and websites.

Consumers should always be suspicious of unsolicited emails that are supposedly from a reputable organisation, such as your bank or the tax office.

Never go to the site by clicking on a link in an email. Check the web address when you do get there too - the login page on your bank’s website address should start with “https”, for example.

Don't forget traditional mail/post

It's hardly new, but it's still something to be aware of. Fraudsters still send out unsolicited letters with "special offers" or telling you "you've been selected" for a special prize.

More worryingly, they also still intercept mail. You need to be especially careful if you live in shared accommodation or have just one front door to multiple addresses.

It only takes one or two bills or card statements for as fraudster to gather enough information about you to impersonate you and take out debt in your name. Make sure these aren't left around unopened and make a list of which bills you're expecting so you are aware if one doesn't arrive.

Hackers target more than eight million computers

A cyber-scam network, which has infected more than eight million computers around the world in the past two years, has been shut down.

Microsoft and Symantec combined forces and closed down the hackers' network last week

The hackers used an online virus, known as the “Bamital Botnet”, to gain access to personal details stored on PCs.

Cyber-crime network
The botnet was used by criminals to access people’s PCs and hijack online search results. It would then lead the user to an unknown website which could start downloading malware, steal their personal information or charge businesses for false online advertisement clicks.

It also led users to websites they never intended to vist. For example, one user was redirected from an official Norton Internet Security Page, which appeared in a list of search results, to a rogue antivirus website distributing malware.

Although exact numbers aren’t known, Microsoft says more than eight million computers have been targeted with this virus in the past two years and 300,000 were disconnected this week from the network.

On 31st January Microsoft filed a lawsuit which was supported by Symantec to the botnet’s operators to sever communication lines. This didn’t happen, so data centres across the US were raided and the infected servers were disrupted.

Those computers which had been infected were then disconnected from the virus network. Users were directed to get rid of the virus.

This is the sixth time in the last three years that Microsoft has stopped a cybercrime network and the second in cooperation with Symantec.

“It was done in such a sneaky way that most victims wouldn’t have even noticed a problem while the botnet was still operating,” explained Richard Domigues Boscovich, assistant general counsel for Microsoft Digital Crimes Unit.

“Because the data gathered from this takedown will become part of Microsoft’s ongoing research in support of protecting its customers from a range of evolving online security threats, we can actually use the criminals’ infrastructure against them and make it harder and more expensive for them to commit cybercrime,” he added.

How to disinfect your computer
Computers which are currently infected with the virus were contacted with a message from Microsoft.

It appeared when the user attempted to search for something on the internet and told the user their computer was very likely to be infected with malware which was redirecting the results of their search queries.

Two free programmes were then listed, Microsoft Safety Scanner and the Norton Power Eraser, which users were encouraged to run to disinfect their computers. More information on how to clear the virus from your computer can be found on the Microsoft Support website.

How to avoid cyber crime
The best way to avoid being hacked is to keep your computer’s security systems up to date and regularly scan for infections. It’s also vital to use different passwords for all the accounts you use online and to use a password which isn’t likely to be hacked.

If your personal details have been stolen criminals can use them to get access to your accounts or apply for credit in your name. Therefore check your bank statements regularly and your credit record as this is where you’ll be able to spot any irregularities.

If you do see something untoward, such as a payment you haven’t authorised, call your bank immediately and let it know.

How to protect your PINs and passwords

As new research reveals some of us are making it far too easy for criminals to guess our passwords and PINs, here are some ways to ensure you protect yourself properly.

New research has found that a staggering one in nine of us use '1234' as the PIN for our bank cards. While it might be easy to remember, it's also one of the first numbers a criminal would try if they got hold of your card.

Other popular, and therefore dangerous, combinations include the James Bond-influenced '0007' and '1984', which might show good taste in literature but could leave your bank account cleaned out.

So how do you set a safe password or PIN? Here are my top tips.

Pathetic passwords

The worst of all passwords – and one of the most common – is 'password'. This is as bad as no password at all. Don't use it, ever.

Other poor passwords include '123456', 'abc123' and 'qwerty' (the first six letters from the top left of the letter keyboard). Using your first and last names (such as 'cliffdarcy') is weak, too.

Also, 'computer' is a pretty silly password.

'Monday' is another bad password – when we discovered our IT master was using it at school, we promptly changed it to 'Tuesday'. 'Letmein' (let me in) and 'iloveyou' (I love you) are also pretty feeble.

Many passwords require a minimum of six letters and, for some reason, 'monkey' is a popular choice.

Other easily found passwords may be your favourite football team or a family member's name. Thanks to public databases and social networking, your supposedly private life may be laid bare for cyber-crooks to sift through.

Another terrible password is the name of the website you're visiting. For example, Barclays customers using 'Barclays' as a password are frankly asking for trouble.

One key opens many locks

Another problem arises if you use a single password to access many different websites. In this scenario, once I have one password, I have access to all your accounts. In effect, you're giving me a master key to open all your locks and make a 'clean sweep'.

Nevertheless, almost half of us use the same or similar passwords to access multiple sites. Naughty, naughty!

Passwords should be unique to each website you visit and every account you use. If you can't remember them, then write them down in a coded message and securely hide this piece of paper. Alternatively, use a Password Safe such as that developed by American cryptography expert Bruce Schneier.

How to create stronger passwords

Of course, strong passwords are more complicated than weak ones, but that's the whole point. They are harder to guess or find with a 'dictionary attack' (searching around 200,000 commonly used words in English).

To create strong passwords, you should:

1. Use at least eight characters and, ideally, more.
2. Use a mix of upper-case and lower-case letters, numbers and keyboard characters accessed via the shift key and non-letter keys.
3. Don't use your name, family names, slang words, swear words, words found in dictionaries and first names. These are easy meat for the professional cracker.

Protecting your PIN

It's not just passwords where we need to be careful. To use a credit, debit or store card, you'll need the four-digit PIN (Personal Identification Number) linked to that plastic card. There are 10,000 combinations of PINs, from 0000 to 9999.

Of course, if you enter the wrong PIN three times, then your card will be locked. This prevents a 'brute force' attack to find PINs, which involves checking all possible combinations.

Even so, PINs aren't as secure as you'd imagine. This is because millions of cardholders change their default PINs to numbers which they find easier to remember. Often, this weakens the security of their cards.

Let me give three examples of weak PINs:

1. In the late Nineties, my boss challenged me to guess his PIN. Knowing him to be a proud Scot, I suggested 1314 – the year of the Battle of Bannockburn. Right, first time.
2. In one of his books, controversial Scottish author Irvine Welsh describes a banking scam to rip off supporters of Glasgow Rangers FC. His crooks steal lots of credit cards and try 1690 as the PIN – the year of the Battle of the Boyne. They successfully steal a fortune.
3. Your year of birth. Possibly the worst PIN to choose, full stop. When I was at university, I found scores of students naively using their year of birth (or birthday as Day-Day-Month-Month) as PINs. If you do this, change your PINs today.

To create a safer PIN, choose a random four-digit number, or simply stick with the default PIN given to you by your bank. Otherwise, you may inadvertently be putting your credit card and current account at risk of fraud.

Loose lips lose money

About five years ago, my father gave me an old laptop. When I went to use it, I found it to be password-protected.

Thinking hard about my dad's life, I tried two passwords before getting it right third time. It was the name of the British Army cavalry regiment he joined way back in the late Sixties.

In short, the more you know about someone, the easier it is to guess their passwords.

That's one of many reasons why I don't belong to social-networking sites such as Facebook, and why my Twitter posts link only to my articles. The more information you post on Facebook, Twitter and the like, the more personal data you give to crooks, criminals and fraudsters.

(Modern-day 'digital villains' also use Facebook and Google Street View to find out when people are on holiday, before burgling their empty homes.)

The reasons behind the phenomenon are not well understood but scientists believe it occurs when charged fine ash particles emitted from the volcano clash with ice particles in the clouds - which in turn creates lighting. Bioluminescent shores: The stunning blue glow seen in the waves here in California is the result of an algae bloom (or red tide). The Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights as it is more popularly known, has inspired millions of people to travel to the far north to see the shimmering spectacle. The beautiful dance of light occurs when particles from the Earth's atmosphere collide with charged particles from the sun. 'Sun dogs' - halos, often with bright spots, that forms in the sky around the sun - behave in a similar way to rainbows. This beautiful sight is caused when sunlight is bent after hitting ice crystals in a cloud. The ice crystal acts as a prism and separates the sunlight into different colours to form a sun dog. When rainbows form it is because raindrops, not ice crystals, act as a prism. (WestEnd61/REX)

Fire Rainbow: The technical term is 'Pileus cloud' and it appears when sunlight passes through ice crystals in a cirrus clouds. If the light and cloud particles are perfectly aligned the crystals behave like a prism and refract the light - in what looks like a rainbow. Red tide (or algae bloom) may look like the scene of a massacre - but it is when colonies of algae grow rapidly - causing the water to turn a deep red. They may look like normal clouds but Asperatus Clouds are so rare they were only proposed as a 'new' classification of cloud in 2009 after extensive study.
