Divine Will

per alice bailey teachings distinguish between divine indifference and will to good

ChatGPT said:

In Alice Bailey’s esoteric teachings—particularly those transmitted through the Tibetan Master Djwhal Khul—Divine Indifference and the Will to Good are both advanced spiritual principles, each reflecting different aspects of divine will and consciousness. Though subtle, the distinction is profound and rooted in her metaphysical framework involving the Seven Rays, spiritual initiation, and cosmic evolution.

Here’s a clear distinction between the two:

Divine Indifference

Definition:

Divine Indifference is not coldness or apathy, but detachment from personal desire, duality, or outcome. It is the impersonal, universal perspective of higher spiritual beings (like the Soul or Monad) who see the whole without becoming entangled in the emotional or mental dramas of the part.

Key Features:

It is a quality of the spiritual will at higher initiatory levels.

Represents freedom from attachment, including attachment to good or evil, pleasure or pain, success or failure.

Arises after the third initiation, when the personality is subordinated to the soul.

It allows for clear, uninhibited service based on the needs of the whole, not personal preference or sentimentality.

It's linked to the First Ray: the Ray of Will and Power, often misunderstood as harsh but actually deeply aligned with divine purpose.

Example from Bailey’s perspective:

A Master may allow suffering or destruction to occur without intervening emotionally—not from cruelty, but from a recognition of karma, soul growth, and larger cycles at work.

Will to Good

Definition:

The Will to Good is the intention of the Divine to express love and harmony through purposeful goodwill. It is not emotional benevolence, but a powerful, directed force that leads to the manifestation of the Plan of evolution.

Key Features:

Emerges as the next step after goodwill; it is the spiritual will infused with love and purpose.

Represents the divine intention to bring about the greatest good for all, according to the Divine Plan.

It's associated with the higher aspect of the First Ray, balanced by the Second Ray (Love-Wisdom).

Central to the work of the Hierarchy and Shamballa, where the Will of God is known and implemented.

In Practice:

It is what disciples invoke in the Great Invocation (“Let purpose guide the little wills of men / The purpose which the Masters know and serve”).

The Will to Good becomes a force wielded by those who have transcended personal will and serve the greater whole.

In Synthesis:

Bailey’s Divine Indifference is a state of consciousness free from identification with form and illusion. The Will to Good is a force or energy that flows from that high state into purposeful action.

You must be indifferent to the fruits of action, yet wield the Will to Good as a servant of the Plan.

  • Divine Indifference is to center the consciousness in Spirit, how does Spirit see the situation? From the Spirit perspective each person is responsible for their own evolution (they have their own Higher Self guiding them) but you can apply the Will to Good- Compassionate Action with Healthy Boundaries to set the example.
