Rare Giant Jellyfish Caught On Tape For The First Time This past April, a rare giant jellyfish known as Stygiomedusa gigantean was spotted swimming in the Gulf of Mexico for the first time ever. These animals are 3 feet in diameter across the "bell" or head, and have four tenticle arms that are 20 feet long. Although the creature's size makes it quite intimidating, it lacks the stinging capabilities of its smaller cousins. With only 114 sightings in the last 110 years it is a jellyfish that is rarely seen, but believed to be widespread throughout the world. Scientists say finding this massive species can provide better insight into habitat, behavior, and ecology of this mysterious creature. http://youtu.be/sLGkBnw6X6U
