Why we should always think highly of others

Everyone has an opinion about everyone and everything. When we allow other people’s opinion of us to cause us to go up or down on the emotional roller coaster, we allow other people to cause our emotions. The goal is to be our own cause. When someone says that we don’t look good, for example, and we then feel hurt, we are the emotional victim of other people. Someone else is causing our emotions.

Our goal is emotional mastery. Our goal is for us to cause our emotions and no one else.

So that’s part one: being indifferent to the opinions others hold of us.

Part two is not being indifferent towards the opinions we hold of others. Why?

Because what is an opinion but a vibration we radiate? When we have a negative opinion of someone, we influence that person in a negative way (unless they work on their mastery). And we don’t want to do that. We just want to be a good influence in this world.

So what do we do with people we can’t stand? Instead of focusing on what you don’t like about them, find something that you do like about them – and if it’s the way they brush their hair.

Here is the point of it: The opinions we hold of other people affect us and they affect the people we have an opinion of. Why do our opinions affect us? Because I cannot think a thought, feel an emotion or say a word without causing a vibration in my own bodies. I cannot separate myself from my own thoughts, feelings, words and actions. And: We don’t want to be unmindful with regards to the impressions we make on others because we want to be a good influence in the world.

To sum it up, here is our goal: Don’t criticize others and don’t bother about other people’s opinion about you.

You see, the day is coming, and it’s coming rather soon where we will begin to hear and see the thoughts of others. As A Course in Miracles says, there is no such thing as a private thought. The moment we think a thought, it shows up in our aura. There is no hiding, and so I actually think that from a Spiritual perspective the loss of privacy that we see all around us is a sign of evolution – even though I don’t necessarily agree with it on a personality level. But there is no such thing as a private thought. And we are evolving to a point where we will begin to see and hear the thoughts of others, and others will see and hear ours. So it’s a good idea to get started with the training. Don’t bother about other people’s opinion about you, and make sure you only think of others in an uplifting way.

ACTION STEP: For the next seven days be super careful not to allow anyone or anything outside of you to cause your emotions. At the same time, deliberately think of others only in an uplifting, positive way.
