O Asclepius, hear from me now
of the nature of movement and of Its Prime Mover.
From the most minute to the largest of the objects
of Hermetic Inquiry, everything that is perceivable by the body and soul
is moved while in a particular form and is moved by something
that is Superior to Its own form.
What is weak and small is moved by what is strong and large.
What is strong and large is moved by something that is Transcendentally Superior to It.
Thus, the microcosm of man's existence is moved
by the macrocosm of planetary existence.
Following suit, the macrocosm of planetary existence is moved
by the Far Greater Macrocosm of the Prime Mover's Existence.
Focusing in on the Cosmic Structure known as the Universe,
we can easily surmise that there is no greater body of Matter
known to man other than the Prime Mover's Primordial Being.
As everything in this world is formed after a certain structure of patterning,
so too is every other body of Matter that lies beyond our grasp
patterned after a Grand Design.
O Asclepius, Trust in My Spirit
when I say that the Whole Universe moves because we move.
There is not one body of Matter that remains motionless,
for everything that exists moves due to the harmony of movement
with larger and larger bodies of Matter.
If one thing moves, everything must move,
for motion is always circular or cyclical.
Rhythmically spinning upon Itself,
the Universal Motion of the Cyclical Cosmos
is revealed in man's cyclical turnings of the wheels of thoughts and emotions.
Digressing from the matter at hand,
let us now consider the contrary nature of that which is moved.
God, being incorporeal, thus contrary to the bodily nature,
is the Most Intelligent Being of all beings,
surpassing the cyclical rhythm of every other micro and macrocosmic existence.
Having more depth of Being and volume than all bodies of Matter combined,
that which moves is put into motion due to the state of rest
that is characteristic of the Prime Mover.
Put otherwise, motion, being born of rest or repose,
is moveable only because there is something that is Immoveable.
Thus, rhythm is achieved by the counterbalancing
of the opposing forces of movement and rest.
Everything in the Above and the Below
is ruled by the rhythm of Balance.
Through opposition and through the harmonizing of opposites,
the Seven Planetary Spheres which move within the Mind of man
undergo periods of activity and passivity.
Once a Quality of the Cosmos
fully manifests and expresses Itself
through the Mind of man, something is always put to rest
in order for the microcosm to begin spinning forth
a new pattern or cycle of Initiatory Consciousness.
As God is the Prime Mover of the Universe,
so too is man the Prime Mover of his own microcosmic life.
Eventually, the motion of man equals the motion of God,
but that is many cycles ahead for most. The same applies for rest.
Asleep in His own Universe of Being,
man rests like the Prime Mover,
that is, Without Interruption Eternally.
Liberated from movement after a certain period of time,
man is as Immobile and Immoveable as the Foundational Stone of God's Existence.
One other important point, Asclepius,
is that Matter Itself cannot by way of nature
move things that are without a soul.
Matter, in conjunction with Spirit,
gives Life to everything
that is moving and will be moving in the Future.
Thus, nature is only natural in Its motions
when God or Prime Mover is seen as the Hidden Cause
behind every form's rhythmic living.
Nothing being empty of the Breath of God,
Life as we know of It is always full of Everlasting Life.
The Incorporeal Spirit or Breath of God
is the Greatest of the Good
and is above Mind and even Spirit.
Being the Cause of Mind and Spirit,
God is the Only Being that can be called fully Good,
for everything else is the subject of Its Scrutiny;
being inferior to Its Mind in all respects.
Many are apt to call man and nature Good,
but the Good is that which is always Good to the Utmost Degree of Perfection.
In fact, man is Good only when he Knows of God,
for what is Good brings man to God and God to Man.
The microcosm, being a reflection of the Goodness of God,
is what sets the standard for all rhythmically inclined beings to follow.
Setting a positive motion for the cyclical wheel of man's thoughts and emotions,
man is blessed with the Truth of Himself,
which is the Goodness that is God.
In conclusion, the Good moves man towards Itself,
for the Good is at rest with the Spirit of man.
Asclepius, thanking Trismegistus for this discourse,
leaves in search of the Good, feeling the Goodness of God within Himself.
