Crystal Gazing

                                             CRYSTAL GAZING

Since The beginning of time, mankind has used reflective surfaces in an attempt to know the future. Perhaps the first scryer gazed into a water pot to find images forming there. Scryers used whatever they found around them; polished steel, lead droplets, mirrors, quicksilver, even pools of ink. Modern diviners often use fisherman's floats. Now you can buy Lucite balls.
Crystal balls became prominent in the Middle Ages and were cherished and passed down to apprentices by their masters. The points of light that reflec~ from the polished surface fix the eye of the gazer until the optic nerve gradually ceases to transmit outside influences .It then begins to respond to the reflex acti<?n proceeding from the brain of the gazer. In this way internal impressions are projected externally and only seem to come from the outside. Sometimes prolonged gazing can cause temporary loss of sight; the optic nerve becomes paralyzed to external expression.
As scrying developed, it's practitioners settled on polished spheres of Beryl, and later on crystal balls. Rock crystal works best for this purpose.
Most of the early records of crystal gazing show conclusively enough that the images revealed in the stone were produced by expectations, hopes, or fears of the gazer.
The advantage of using a ball in which to SCry is that is multiplies reflections and light points so the sight is induced to wander from point to point, thereby suggesting forms and motions by the combination of the numerous reflections. Often too, a light point visible to one eye will not be so to the other. For an individual gifted with imagination and the natural quality of visualization brain pictures, shifting light points and repeated reflections of surrounding objects offer a great deal of material out of which to construct the lifelike visions viewed in a crystal. Whether these pictures have specific psychic power other than their value as phenomena depends upon the significance we attribute to the process of the subconscious.
