Someone might ask "Why do some Attunements work so well and others don't ? Why are some energies so strong and others aren't ?" I gathered a few possibilities to answer those questions during my observations. In general, I would say: TECHNOLOGY. Spiritual technology.  Just like medicines, cars and computers.

Technology means that there is a group of people working on, studying and creating new forms of doing things that are better than the previous ones. Current technology is that which supply our present demands.  
Pasteur's antibiotics conceived in the 19th century wouldn't work today, because bacteria have evolved along with our society.  
Similarly, new forms of Reiki and attunements are being channeled and developed by a growing community of people. 
Why is Usui Reiki usually regarded as weaker than newer versions ?
Probably because it was developed in Japan when it still was a rural country. People lived closer to nature, with less artificial lifestyles -- so cleansing was easier than today. 

Our problems evolve, technology evolves, solutions evolve. 

Reiki is relatively new to our society, it is not in the mainstream but it seems more and more people are adopting it. In some societies like in Tibet, in Japan, in Egypt it was probably used. In other societies it didn't exist. Technology exists in waves, sometimes people don't know anything of it and sometimes people use it extensively. 
It looks like we are entering a wave where people will use it more and more. My vision for the next decades is that Reiki will mix with conventional medicine, and we will use it like Aspirin.

@ Chris. 
I cannot comment there, because I didn't buy the books. Only buyers can comment there (I fas as I know).
There are lots of details on the attunements I could describe.  Each attunement had a different effect on me. I'm very sensitive to energies. And I used them with other people too. I was a very rich experience.

I'll give my feedback. I used to be a Reiki Master  and Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner by the time I bought Chris' book "45 Free Attunements".
I took all the attunements in the book (Reikis, Planetary Rays and Cosmic Rays) and a few others, during some months. It was a very very very rich experience. But I cannot say they changed my life.
Then, I went on to take Chris'  Lightarian Ascention Rays. I took #1, Empowerment, then #2, Clearing (that's where I'm now). 
I can say the Lightarian Ascention Rays are completely different form all other attunements. I'm in the 2nd attunement and it did change radically my negative emotional patterns, It's cleansing very deeply my channels and organs on a continuous basis. I feel the attunement is working on me all the time, deeper and deeper. 
I feel I found what I was looking for. I plan to take the rest of the Lightarian Rays and then the Lightarian Clearings (which are the advanced part).
Hint: Drink a lot of water, and help the body energy flow (doing yoga, breathing, streching, bodyduilding, bike, whatever -- I'd especially recommend aerobic exercises).

@ Andre. The Clearings 1-6 go anywhere after the Lightarian Rays.

@ Alain, yes taking breaks before receiving energy levels is advised to allow the energy to settle in your system. Some systems like Kundalini Reiki and Lightarian Rays are best to be received with more than 1 day between attunements like you posted below.
